Emulsifying wax NF is a mixture of Cetearyl Alcohol and Polysorbate 60 compounded according to the National Formulary specifications. It is a mild ingredient with a proven safety record and has been used successfully for many years.

Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of fatty alcohols, consisting predominantly of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. Cetyl alcohol is the fatty alcohol of Palmitic acid. Stearyl alcohol is the fatty alcohol of Stearic acid. Cetearyl Alcohol is often produced by the catalytic hydrogenation of Coconut Oil or Palm Oil. Polysorbate 60 is a synthetic chemical and does not occur in nature. It is derived from reacting ethylene oxide with sorbitan monostearate. Polysorbate 60 is used as an emulsifier in food products and cosmetics.
