Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)Maui Nani uses Shea Butter in our Lehua Honey Cleanser. Shea butter is the fat extracted from the kernels of Butyrospermum parkii. The species is found across 19 countries across the African savanna zone from Senegal to Ethiopia. The fatty acid composition is dominated by stearic and oleic acids, which together account for 85-90% of the fatty acids. Shea butter also contains a high percentage of unsaponifiables, such as phytosterols and triterpenes and hydrocarbons. Maui Nani uses Shea Butter in our special blend of saponified oils. The "unsponifiable" portion makes our cleanser gentle and moisturizing. |
